“Phuket”, They Said.

“Phuket”, they said as Chad Elwartowski and his girlfriend, Nadia Supranee Thepdet, decided to live off the coast of Phuket, Thailand. You may be wondering how people can live off the coast of anything; isn’t it just water? Yes, yes it is. Elwartowski worked with a company named Ocean Builders to build a seastead, which is a permanent dwelling place at sea according to Google. If you didn’t know what a seastead was, you may be wondering how he could afford it. Elwartowski is a Bitcoin investor, which is the headline for every article you search about him, but that isn’t the issue. The issue is, the couple could face the death penalty because of the seastead. According to wtvr.com, the Thai navy said the couple are threatening the country’s sovereignty by trying to sell that type of house and saying it is not under any country’s sovereignty; while also promoting the house on social media by talking about not being affected by any policy decisions and tax laws. Why is having the seastead built where it is, punishable by death or life in prison? Because it interferes with the country’s immigration laws.

UPDATE: The seastead was recently destroyed by the Thai navy.

Why are people so strict these days? It’s clear that this is just some love story a couple wanted to live. Moving to the middle of the ocean, drinking tropical drinks, and laying back, letting the sun take all the stress away of being in America. What do you think of this situation? Let me know!
